Cincy is a city in flux. OTR is redeveloping thanks to orgs like 3CDC and their mural game is impressive, but there’s still an air of urban decay that’s just downright sad.
After a quick trip through the Findlay Market that resulted in desirous glances but zero purchases, we found ourselves back at Taft’s Ale House on Race St. Taft’s is an homage to the 27th President – the one too porcine for his bathtub. Set in a beautiful German Evangelical Protestant Church built in 1850, saved thanks to 3CDC’s nearly 5 year and $10 million restoration.
Although their bitters were absolutely awful, they introduced us to our bartender Haley (who also thought they were trash). Haley’s Old Fashioned was a solid effort and she was game enough to take tequila shots with us. Thank’s Haley!
It was at Taft’s that Wholesome Hoosier was born.

Trips to So-OH are always inspired by a need to visit Jungle Jim’s and this weekend was no different. If you don’t know – you must go. And if you have, you are not surprised that we left with an indecent amount of cheese and several new hot sauces.
