Merida for the win (again) – part 2

A trip to the Yucatán isn’t complete without a visit to a Cenote. We scheduled a Saturday excursion via email before we left the US with a very nice gentleman named Ralf. We were lucky that kismet brought us together because our day was spectacular.

Ralf could not have been more amazing if he tried. Although we’d been to the Yucatán several times before, we were astounded by how little of it we’d actually seen and understood.

We’d been to a dozen cenotes on prior trips, with previous tour guides, but they had always been crowded, super comodfied, and touristy…THIS ISNT THE TRIP RALF RUNS.

Ralf sent us on a quick bike tour around the market.

We were taken to beautiful, family owned cenotes, away from the throngs of tourists, where we swam at our leisure in near total seclusion.
Between the four cenotes we toured, Ralf explained the flora and fona of the Yucatan, regaled us with fascinating historic vignettes, and treated us to the amazing food of a local market, a roadside tamale stand, and a backyard beehive. It was the best honey we’ve ever had!

THE BEST HONEY!!!

Ralf truly made our trip special and we will definitely meet up with him again when we’re back in the Yucatán!
